“Quality of life in the Alpine Towns of the Year” was the theme of the joint photo competition organised by the towns of Annecy, Bad Aussee, Brig-Glis, Herisau, Idrija, Sonthofen, Trento and Villach for the Year of Alpine Towns 2014.
Goal
The association “Alpine Town of the Year” is a network of towns from the Alpine region that work together on the sustainable development of the living, economic, cultural and natural environment. Through joint projects and events, the association thus brings people together across linguistic and geographical borders. One of the association’s aims is to raise awareness of the uniqueness of the Alps. In the “Year of the Alpine Towns 2014” it therefore invited the inhabitants of the Alpine towns to take photographs to capture what makes the quality of life in their “Alpine Town of the Year” so special.
Jury
The photos were selected in a three-stage procedure by representatives from various Alpine countries. The members of the jury were photographers, communication experts, employees of the “Alpine Town of the Year” Association and the “Alpine Towns of the Year”. The jury’s decision was legally binding.
Prizes
The winners of the photo competition set off on a culinary and cultural journey of discovery through the Alps: the winning photo from each town received a gift basket of specialities, provided by another “Alpine Town of the Year”. The prizes were presented by the respective home town from November 2014 on.
