Nature Restoration: Opportunity for cities & municipalities
Nature is our greatest resource – and our greatest responsibility. With the EU Nature Restoration Law, there is now a law for the restoration of nature. It calls for legally binding, targeted measures to return ecosystems to their original state. At the same time, there is an opportunity to make our cities and communities sustainable and liveable.
Despite all the ambition, there are still many question marks surrounding the actual implementation of the law. What exactly is meant by ‘restoring nature’? What measures do the EU member states envisage? What responsibility does the local level have? How can citizens be involved?
In this webinar, the two networks Alliance in the Alps and Alpine Town of the Year would like to provide assistance and answers, especially for municipalities and towns. In addition to an introduction to the current state of knowledge on the EU Nature Restoration Law, possible effects and obligations for municipalities will be presented and discussed. At the same time, we will use good examples from practice to show that projects to improve biodiversity are an investment in the future and increase the quality of life.
Shaping the future instead of managing it!
What makes a place worth living in? How can Alpine communities maintain a high quality of life for all generations? These questions are the focus of the third webinar of the Alliance in the Alps and Alpine Town of the Year networks on 17 March 2025. Get to know committed people and projects for a better quality of life in towns and municipalities.
Citizen and youth participation, public well-being, access to services or sharing projects – these are concrete approaches that increase the quality of life in the municipality and can be implemented in a low-threshold manner. The 10th Report on the State of the Alps by the Alpine Convention is hot off the press and offers decision-makers suggestions and assistance for improving the quality of life.
Places to Live, Places to Visit: How Municipalities Combine Quality of Life and Tourism
What do municipalities need to ensure a good life for their residents – while also being welcoming to guests? How can everyday life for locals be harmonized with an appeal to visitors? And how can tourism be embraced and appreciated by the local population? These questions are in the focus of the fourth webinar hosted by Allianz in den Alpen and Alpine Town of the Year on 8 May 2025.
Fresh Ideas for Livable Destinations
Forward-thinking municipalities and tourism associations go beyond traditional administrative tasks. They create opportunities for participation, support authentic local projects, invest in inclusive dialogue, and develop sustainable tourism concepts that respect both people and nature. Across the Alps, innovative solutions are emerging that benefit residents and guests alike – shaping a future that is vibrant and worth living in.
Join the conversation – for thriving communities with high quality of life and resilient tourism.
