LOCAL – Low Carbon Alpine Lifestyle

Sustainable lifestyles, reducing CO2 emissions and launching local projects: the LOCAL (Low Carbon Alpine Lifestyle) project saw young people actively participate in political and social life and campaigning for citizen-oriented climate protection in their communities.

Young people have the opportunity to actively shape their living environment and lay the foundations for the community in which they want to live and in which climate protection in the Alps is a top priority. The aim of the LOCAL project was to strengthen the political participation of young people and at the same time promote sustainable awareness.

Within the framework of LOCAL, young people designed their own projects to take into account ecological sustainability criteria and promote a low-carbon lifestyle. To meet these criteria, they developed creative solutions and innovative methods. Furthermore, the young participants acquired technical and entrepreneurial skills in organising meetings and developing projects. They faced new situations and came into contact with people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

The networking of the participating communities led to an exchange of good practices throughout the Alpine Space. The local projects implemented within LOCAL magnified a low-carbon lifestyle, reduced emissions of climate-damaging greenhouse gases and improved air quality in the local communities.
