AlpWeek 2024: Alps in our hands

AlpWeek
Alps in our hands
23-25 September 2024
Nova Gorica, Slovenia

Two decades after the first AlpWeek in Kranjska Gora/SI we want you to celebrate the 20th anniversary with us in September 2024! Registration is now open until 23 August!

Join us in Nova Gorica where we will look back on the diverse developments in the Alps in the last 20 years. Which initiatives and policies have been successful? What types of cooperation or projects can help to further strengthen sustainable development in the Alps? We will then explore the future and brainstorm on how to shape the next 20 years for the Alps – because it is in our hands!

The programme spotlights the convergence of three key themes central to the Alpine Conference’s Multi-Annual Work Programme 2023-2030: biodiversity and ecosystems, climate action, and quality of life. Participants will learn about the limits of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies from Lučka Kajfež Bogataj, a member of the IPCC, hear optimistic words about future biodiversity governance from Serena Arduino, president CIPRA International. And Christian Felber will explain how the Economy for the Common Good can contribute to measuring quality of life. Our president Ingrid Fischer discusses and reflects on two decades of change, positive developments and the need for improvement at the round table.

You can look forward to interactive workshops to learn about challenges and possible solutions for sustainable development in the Alps. Of particular interest to Alpine towns could be Session 3 “Us versus them – or with them? What diversity and polarisation have to do with each other”, Session 4 “Coping with multiple climate risks: a governance challenge” and Session 9 “How to balance the quality of tourist experience with quality of life?” could be of particular interest to Alpine towns. Join exciting excursions into the beautiful surroundings of Nova Gorica to find out about the region’s diverse heritage and how it lives on today. Cultural events and creative activities with young people will complete the dynamic agenda of the AlpWeek.
